The Village of Oblong is a non-home rule unit which operates under a commission form of government. The Village Board is comprised of the Mayor and six Trustees, four are elected for four-year terms and two are elected for two-year terms. The Village Clerk and the Village Treasurer are appointed with the consent of the Village Board.

The Village Board meets on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. Each Trustee is chairperson of a committee. The six committees are: Police, Finance, Water/Sewer, Building/Park, Street/Alley and Sidewalks/Lights.

There are currently 8 permanent and five part-time employees. The Village has a working budget of approximately $1,000,000.00. The population of the Village is 1580.

If you need records from the Village of Oblong, first obtain and complete a "Freedom of Information Request Form" from the Village Clerk's and Treasurer's Office. You should then proceed to the department where the record you are seeking is housed.

Each request will be complied with or denied within seven working days after its receipt. The seven day period may be extended up to fourteen working days if required. A copy of Freedom of Information Act is available upon request in the Village Clerk's and Treasurer's Office.
