Draft Minutes
The Village of Oblong Board of Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016, in the Farley Room of the Municipal Building.
Members Present: Mayor Randy Rich, Clerk Ladora Boyd, Trustee Dave Hasty, Trustee Jay Haines, Trustee Ken Russell, Trustee Teresa Fielder, Trustee Debi Wilson and Treasurer/Deputy Clerk Jan Miller.
Absent: Trustee Rick Catt.
Others Present: Public Works Superintendent Gary Lanter, Chief Chad Pusey, Bill Cox, Jr. (Boy Scouts of America Leader), Will Cox (Boy Scout of America), Brian Stutesman (Boy Scouts of America), Benny Stutesman, Cathy Stutesman, Chris Dewitt (WTYE/WTAY), Katie Blankenbaker (Oblong School District Representative for Character Counts), and Whitley Parrot (Oblong School District Representative for Character Counts).
The meeting was called to order at 7 pm by Mayor Rich; with everyone standing and saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Regular Board Meeting Minutes of January 6th, 2016, were approved with a motion by Ken, and a second by Teresa. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.
There was one addition to the agenda this month. Randy presented a certificate of recognition to Will Cox and Brian Stutesman for the achievement of Eagle Scout. Brian and Will thanked the Board for the recognition. Brian stated that only 2% reach the level of Eagle Scout.
There were no Delinquent Water Bill customers at this month’s meeting.
Katie Blankenbaker came before the Board to ask permission to have the Character Counts 5k run on April 1st, Sign-up will be at 5:30 pm; run will start at 6 pm and should be done in about 1½ hours. The Board granted the request. The route for the 5k has not been establish at this time. Rain date is April 15th.
Mayor’s Comments:
Randy stated that there has been some complaints about cats in the northeast
part of town. He asked Jan to contact the Spayed/Neuter Society about this
issue. He also stated that the Village will be sending them a check for
$500, this month.
Randy stated that a few citizens have called about Republic Services raising
their rates. Randy stated that it was in the contract that Republic could
raise the rate. Republic also had sent out letters to some of their customers,
who had been receiving the Village rate, that live outside the Village
limits. It was suggested that the Village might consider annexation, but
will need to check on the pros and cons.
Reports of Committees:
Police: Chad stated that he has training on the 24th & 25th in Effingham
and on the 26th in Salem.
Building and Park: Debi stated that she had nothing to report this month.
Sidewalks and Lights: Dave stated that he had nothing to report this month.
Street and Alley: Jay stated that he had nothing to report this month.
Water and Sewer: Ken stated that he had nothing to report this month.
Finance: Randy stated that everyone needs to start working on budgets for
next fiscal year.
Development: Randy stated that there was nothing to report this month.
Motion by Ken, with a second by Jay, to pay the bills that were on the warranty list and any utility bills, bills that will incur a late charge or reimbursements to employees. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.
There were no other items of business this month.
Motion by Jay, with a second by Teresa, to adjourn the meeting at 7:21 pm. Five (5) ayes, motion carried.
