Mayor Teresa K. Fielder

Hello! Thanks for checking in on the Village of Oblong. My name is Teresa K. Fielder. I serve as the Mayor of the “One and Only” Oblong. We are a rural farming community with a population of around 1400 people.

I was first elected in 2017, re-elected in 2021. If I have learned anything about this position (and life in general), it is that the success only comes if you work hard for it. Success is not about money-it’s about life.

We have a beautiful town filled with wonderful people, schools and churches. Our most prized feature is our park. Through much hard work by our engineers and grant writers, Oblong was awarded an OSLAD (Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant) through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources in 2023. With these monies we were able to make a new walking path around our lake and make all parking lots ADA compliant. New lighting around the walking path will provide safety as well.

We also have a beautiful dog park near our camping facility. This has been a huge hit for not only our residents and our furry friends, but neighboring friends from nearby and far away.

Our Values

Oblong stands strongly on those who have gone before us. Many have served and volunteered countless hours to keep our small town alive. With the ever changing times, it becomes harder each year to preserve the past. My hope is-once you’ve been to Oblong it will make an impact in your life. Oblong is a great place to live, worship, go to school, raise a family, and retire.

Our county is blessed to be the home to three Fortune 500 companies located in Robinson IL, providing jobs for many of our residents. (Dana Incorporated; Hershey; Marathon Petroleum Company) with an average daily commute of 15-30 minutes.
